Picture this: You get up every day and slog away at an office, working on a creative project with … your sister. That might not work for all of us — but for the Oleema and Kalani Miller, the sibs behind blockbuster swim brand MIKOH, life together is literally a beach. If the selfies of the two of them together on both of their Instas is any indication, these two geniunely adore each other, and clearly have a good thing going with their business strategy — which seems to involve lotsa surfing, sunshine, and figuring out exactly what women want from their swimwear.
It was fun to catch up with the Miller sisters and chat resolutions, beaches, and where they’re headed in 2017.
BIKINI: Do you two have any New Year’s resolutions?
THE MILLERS: Travel more to new places — the best way to learn about cultures and gather inspiration is by going to explore and see new places. We have Thailand on our bucket list for 2017!
BIKINI: What beaches are on your must-see list for 2017?
THE MILLERS: We both spend months out of the year in Hawaii. We would love to explore our backyard and neighboring islands. Kauai is known as one of the most lush islands in the world, and we would love to hike to beaches that you can only reach via hike, like Secret Beach.
BIKINI: Can you tell us about the inspiration for the next Mikoh collection?
THE MILLERS: You’ll have to wait and see!
BIKINI: Do you have any fave instagram accounts?
THE MILLERS: We love @chrissyteigan @erinfoster — both are hilarious — and @bikinidotcom, of course.
BIKINI: Trend-wise, what do you think is going to be big news in swim in 2017?
THE MILLERS: We think that there is a big “back to basics” trend right now. Also, we are loving our fuller coverage pieces, like the Mediterranean one piece. Of course, details are always key, and the Loihi top and Bankok top both have understated but impactful details. We are loving tropical prints!
WHO DOESN’T LIKE A LITTLE GETAWAY?! WE ARE LUCKY ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO TRAVEL AS MUCH AS WE DO AND THERE ISN’T A DAY THAT GOES BY WE DON’T COUNT OUR BLESSINGS. TRAVELING ON PLANES, TRAINS, AND AUTOMOBILES MEANS HONING IN ON OUR TRAVEL SKILLS. MINIMAL STRESS IS KEY WHEN YOU TRAVEL, SO HERE ARE OUR TOP TIPS TO CONSIDER BEFORE HEADING TO THE AIRPORT.

WE LOVE NOTHING MORE THAN THE HOLIDAYS. THE SMELL OF CHRISTMAS, SNOW CAPPED MOUNTAINS, AND BUNDLING UP IN THE WINTER AIR.
THIS YEAR, HOWEVER, WE ARE ISLAND BOUND AND STAYING IN HAWAII THROUGH THE HOLIDAYS. THAT MEANS PALM TREES TO HANG OUR LIGHTS ON, BEACH DAYS WITH SAND INSTEAD OF SNOW, AND BIKINIS INSTEAD OF JACKETS (WHICH WE ARE ALWAYS A FAN OF).
OLEEMA IS HOSTING CHRISTMAS EVE DINNER AND KALANI IS HOSTING CHRISTMAS DAY BRUNCH.
HERE IS OUR FAVORITE RECIPE FOR MULLED WINE, WHICH GUARANTEES THE HOLIDAY SCENT WHETHER YOU ARE IN THE TROPICS OR THE SNOW.

OLEEMA AND KALANI
6 whole allspice berries
1 tablespoon whole black peppercorns
2 whole star anise
3 cinnamon sticks
1 (1-inch) piece fresh ginger, sliced
3 large strips orange zest
3 large strips lemon zest
2 (750-ml) bottles red wine
3/4 cup honey
In the basket of a coffee percolator place the allspice berries, peppercorns, star anise, cinnamon sticks, ginger and citrus zest. Pour the wine and honey into the percolator. Attach basket, cover and let percolate for 1 to 2 hours. Serve hot.
Having a little white bikini is almost as essential as an LBB… It’s fresh, bright, and makes you feel all glowy and bronze when you’re rocking it at the beach. We love Mikohs cheeky cut bottoms and triangle-bralette style top in white, and you probably will too… X
